ANSWER
đş1ď¸âŁ SUHOOR time
As for the duaa for Suhoor, thereâs NO specific duaa to be said thatâs proven from the authentic practice or teachings of the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam.
Remember, the intention is an action of the HEART.
We should resolve in our HEART that we are going to fast today.
That is ALL we need.
It is NOT from the Shareeâah to say out loud, "I intend to fast", "I will fast tomorrow" etc as some people do.
đIbn Taymiyah said:
âWhoever thinks in his heart that he will fast tomorrow has formed the intention.âÂ
Also, there is NO SPECIFIC DUAA to be recited at the time of starting the fast thatâs proven from the Sunnah.
Some people say the following:
âŮŮŮŮŮŮŮŘŞŮ ŘľŮŮŮ٠٠غداŮ
âŮŮبŮŘľŮŮŮŮ Ů ŘşŮدا٠ŮŮŮŮŮŮŮŘŞŮ
BUT, thereâs NO PROOF of this from the authentic Sunnah.
Rather it is BIDâAH.
đThe scholars said:
âThe intention is an action of the heart.
The Muslim should resolve in his heart that he is going to fast tomorrow.
It is not prescribed for him to utter it out loud and say,
âŮŮŮŮŮŮŮŘŞŮ ŘľŮŮŮ٠٠غداŮ
âI intend to fast tomorrowâ or
âŘŁŘľŮ٠غدا٠ŮŮ
âI will fast tomorrowâ or other phrases that have been innovated by some people.â
(Islamqa Fatwa 37643)
đş2ď¸âŁ IFTAAR time
đAnd as for a specific duaa to be said at the time of breaking the fast, then the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam said:
âŘ°Ůب اŮظ٠أ ŮابتŮŘŞ اŮؚعŮŮ Ů؍بت اŮŘŁŘŹŘą ؼ٠شاإ اŮŮŮ
âDhahaba al-âzamaâ wa abtallat al-âurooq wa thabata al-ajr in sha Allaah
âthe thirst is gone, the veins have been moistened and the reward is assured, if Allaah wills).â
(Abu Dawood, al-Bayhaqi; classed as hasan).
đThe hadeeth with the words
âAllaahumma laka sumtu wa âala rizqika aftartuâŚ.
âاŮŮŮŮ Ů٠ؾ٠ت ŮŘšŮ٠عزŮŮ ŘŁŮءعت
This is a daâeef (weak) hadeeth , as stated by various scholars of hadeeth.
đRegarding this hadeeth, the scholars said:
âThe duâa âAllahumma laka sumtu wa âala rizqika aftartu
(O Allaah, for You have I fasted and by Your provision I have broken my fast)â was narrated by Abu Dawud, 2358.
It is a mursal hadeeth so it is daâeef (weak).
Shaikh al-Albaani classed it as daâeef in Daâeef Abi Dawud (510).â
(Islamqa Fatwa 26879)
Therefore, it is better to avoid this duaa and stay with the authentic one.
đAlso remember that itâs good to make your own duaa just before iftaar time.
Thatâs because our duaa is not rejected at that time.
đThe Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam said:
"Three prayers are NOT REJECTED: the prayer of a parent, the prayer of a fasting person, and the prayer of a traveler." (al-Bayhaqi, saheeh by al-Albaani).
đşWhen to make our duaaâ
đShaikh ibn âUthaymeen said:
âDuaa should be made BEFORE iftaar (breaking the fast), at Maghrib, because this combines weakness and humility, and because he is still fasting.
All of these are means of having oneâs duaaâ answered.
After breaking the fast, one is relaxed and happy, and may become negligent.
But there is a hadeeth from the Prophet Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam which, if it is saheeh, shows that the duâaaâ may be made after breaking the fast.
It says:
â" Ř°Ůب اŮظ٠أ ŮابتŮŘŞ اŮؚعŮŮ Ů؍بت اŮŘŁŘŹŘą ؼ٠شاإ اŮŮŮ "
âThirst has gone, the veins are moist, and the reward is assured, if Allaah wills.â(Abu Dawood; hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood, 2066). This can only mean AFTER breaking the fast.â
So as the Shaikh said, first we can make our own duaa THEN break our fast THEN say this above duaa.
And Allaah knows best
