Can I read just the first and last ten Aayaat of Surah al-Kahf on Friday instead of reading the whole Surah?

ANSWER

No. If you want to attain the rewards associated with reading Surah al-Kahf on Fridays, you must read the WHOLE Surah.

🔺Why is that?

Reading Surah al-Kahf on Fridays is something recommended from the Sunnah according to the majority of the scholars.

🍃 Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri radhi Allaahu anhu said:

“Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the night of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will stretch between him and the Ancient House (the Ka’bah).”

(al-Daarimi 3407; saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jami’, 6471)

And:

🍃 “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will shine from him from one Friday to the next.”

(al-Mustadrak, 2/368; saheeh by al-Albaani in Sahih al-Jami’ al-Saghir 6346)

These ahaadeeth are talking about reading the Surah as a whole on Fridays, because of the special virtue of this Noble Surah and the great lessons it contains, while the ahaadeeth that talk about reading the first ten or last ten aayaat of Surah al-Kahf are SPECIFICALLY regarding PROTECTION from the DAJJAAL.

So this is a SEPARATE issue and should NOT be confused with the first.

🍃 The Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam said:

“Whoever among you sees him (the Dajjaal), let him recite against him the opening verses of Surah al-Kahf.” (Muslim 5228)

🍃 And he Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam said:

“Whoever memorizes ten verses from the beginning of Surah Al-Kahf will be protected from the False Messiah.”

In another narration, “…from the last ten verses of Surah Al-Kahf.” (Muslim 1342)

📌 These ten Aayaat of Surah al-Kahf can be read ANY DAY.

Reading these ten Aayaat is NOT just restricted to Friday only.

The Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam asked us to learn and memorize these aayaat of Surah al-Kahf as a protection against the Dajjaal and did not specify a time or day for them to be read.

But if we want to follow the recommendation to specifically read Surah al-Kahf on Fridays, and achieve the rewards associated with it, then we must read the WHOLE Surah.

And Allaah knows best.
