STOP! Do NOT FAST for Corona on Thursday!

Updated: Apr 3, 2020

❓ QUESTION ❓ Everyone is fasting together all over the world on Thursday April 2, to get rid of the Coronavirus. Is that wrong? 🌿 ANSWER 🌿 The Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam used to fast Mondays and Thursdays. That much is true. However, the question we need to ask is.... Is it PROVEN from the Sharee’ah to FAST COLLECTIVELY when there’s a trial or calamity? Did the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam EVER FAST COLLECTIVELY with the Sahaabah to solve problems and ward off tribulations? Did the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam ask the Sahaabah to fast all together when the Makkans imposed sanctions on him and his family? His beloved wife Khadeejah died. They ate LEAVES because they ran out of food. His own children died. But did the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam FAST COLLECTIVELY with the rest of the Muslims? NO HE DID NOT. Did the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam and the Sahaabah FAST COLLECTIVELY when they were tortured and persecuted and killed for no reason? When the Kuffaar killed Sumaiyyah radhi Allaahu anhaa? When rocks were heated and placed on Bilal radhi Allaahu anhu? NO THEY DID NOT. Did ANY of the Sahaabah FAST “COLLECTIVELY” when they were dying with the plague in Shaam? And their ENTIRE families were wiped off the face of the earth?! NO THEY DID NOT. Then let me ask YOU.... Why are YOU bent upon doing things that the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam did not do? Why are YOU inventing NEW ways of worship that are NOT PROVEN from the Sharee’ah?! You think this will bring relief from Allaah?! NO! Rather, Bid’ah brings the WRATH of Allaah! 🔺 Wait a second! Fasting is a good deed that’s proven from the Sharee’ah. How can that be wrong? It’s true that fasting itself is a very noble deed. But it’s not the fasting itself that’s wrong. It’s HOW an act of ibaadah is done that’s important. You see, ALL acts of ibaadah have to have PROOF from the Sharee’ah in order for them to be valid and accepted. It’s not just enough for us to have “good intentions”. Rather the act ALSO has to be according to the PRACTICE and TEACHINGS of the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam. If it’s proven from the authentic practice or teachings of the Prophet Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam to be done that way, then we should do it. And if it’s NOT proven from the way of the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam then we should not do it either. The Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam is the one who SHOWED us HOW to worship Allaah and HOW to do any act of ibaadah. HE’S the one we’re supposed to follow. Otherwise, ANYONE can come up with ANYTHING and claim it to be an act of ibaadah. 🍃The Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam said: “Whoever does any action that is not in accordance with this matter of ours (i.e., Islaam), will have it REJECTED.” (Muslim) 🍃 Ibn Rajab said: “This hadeeth forms one of the MOST IMPORANT principles of Islaam. Just as every action which is not intended for the sake of Allaah brings no reward to the one who does it, so too, every deed which is not in accordance with the command of Allaah and His Messenger will also be rejected and THROWN BACK at the one who does it. Everyone who innovates in Islaam something for which Allaah and His Messenger have not granted permission, that thing has NOTHING to do with Islaam.” (Jami’ al-‘Uloom wa’l-Hikam, part 1, p.176) 🔺Conclusion Do NOT fast like this COLLECTIVELY thinking there’s some “special virtue” in doing so or it will bring “benefit or relief” to fast this way. Do NOT do ANY ACT OF IBAADAH that’s NOT proven from the authentic practice or teachings of the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam. It will NOT be accepted. It will NOT achieve what you’re trying to achieve. In fact it will bring the ANGER of Allaah and His WRATH. And it will be NOTHING but a source of REGRET for the one who does it on the Day of Judgment. HOLD ON to the Sunnah of the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam and you will never go astray. Please send this message to as many people as you can so that maybe we can stop wrong practices and misguidance from spreading. And maybe Allaah will count us among those who “enjoin good and forbid evil” and forgive us. Ameen. Side note: If you’re fasting this day because you fast Mondays and Thursdays ROUTINELY and your intention is NOT to fast collectively, then there’s nothing wrong with fasting this day. And Allaah knows best
