وَاصْبِرْ نَفْسَكَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُم بِالْغَدَاةِ وَالْعَشِيِّ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَهُ
"And keep yourself (O Muhammad ﷺ) patiently with those who call on their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His Face... "
Here Allaah is telling the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam to keep good company.
Wait... who?
The Prophet ﷺ?!
Subhaan Allaah!
Who could be stronger in his Imaan than the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam?!
And who could have more taqwa of Allaah than him Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam?!
Yet, STILL if Allaah is telling HIM to keep good company, then...
WHAT ABOUT me and you?!
Just shows how much our 'company' and friends influence us.
🍃The Prophet Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam said:
"A person follows the way of his friend; so each one should consider whom he makes his friend." (Abu Dawood-- hasan by al-Albaani)
🍃And the Prophet Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam also said:
“The likeness of a good companion and a bad companion is that of one who carries musk and one who works the bellows. With the carrier of musk, either he will give you some or you will buy some from him, or you will notice a good smell from him; as for the one who works the bellows, either he will burn your clothes or you will notice a bad smell from him.”
(al-Bukhaari, 1995; Muslim, 2628)
This means that the friend will INFLUENCE you.
And you’ll take on the characteristics of your friend.
And that’s why the Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam warned us from making friends with those that are not religious or righteous.
🍃He Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam said:
“Do not keep company with anyone but a believer and do not let anyone eat your food but one who is pious.”
(al-Tirmidhi, 2395; Abu Dawood, 4832; hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 2519)
🍃Imam al-Munaawi said:
“Whoever treads the path of the people of Allaah and comes upon them will become from the people of happiness.
Whoever treads a path of the wicked ones and comes upon them will become from the people of misery.
A person is with those whom he loves and whoever imitates a people is like them .
A servant will be resurrected upon what he died upon” (Fayd ul-Qadir 5/47)
So be careful who you keep company of and who you make friends with.
Surround yourself with righteous people, those who fear Allaah and remind you of Him….
Those who help you stay steadfast on the straight path.
It is they who are your only True Friends in this Life and in the Aakhirah.
And stay away from those that will be a cause of embarrassment for you on the Day of Judgment.
It's a DIRECT ORDER from your Rabb.
Indeed, a friend who doesn't care about your Aakhirah is not really your friend, after all.
