The last two Aayaat of Surah al-Baqarah are truly BLESSED and VIRTUOUS.
We should memorize them and read them regularly every night before bed as that was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ to do so.
🔺These aayat are SPECIAL
🍃Ibn Mas’ood radhi Allaahu anhu said:
“When the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ was taken on the Night Journey, he went as far as Sidratul-Muntahaa (The Lote Tree at the furthest boundary) which is in the Sixth Heaven.
It is there where everything that ascends from the Earth stops, then it is taken from there.
And it is there where everything that descends from above stops, then it is taken from there.
Allaah says:
“Then that which covered the Lote-tree did cover cover it.” (an-Najm 53:16)
And the Messenger of Allaah was given three things:
He was given the five daily Prayers,
he was given the final verses of Surah al-Baqarah, and
he was given forgiveness for the major sins of his nation for those who do not associate anything in worship with Allaah.”
(Saheeh Muslim 173)
🔺A BLESSED LIGHT from Allaah.
🍃Ibn 'Abbaas radhi Allaahu anhu reported:
“While Jibreel was sitting with the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ, he heard a sound above him.
He lifted his head, and said:
"This is a gate which has been opened in heaven today. It was never opened before."
Then an angel descended through it, he said:
"This is an angel who has come down to earth. He never came down before."
He sent greetings and said:
"Rejoice with two lights given to you.
Such lights were not given to any Prophet before you.
These (lights) are: Faatihah-til-Kitaab (Surah al-Faatihah), and the concluding Aayaat of Surah Al-Baqarah.
You will never recite a word from them without being given the blessings it contains."
(Saheeh Muslim 806)
🔺These Aayaat are part of a TREASURE from Allaah
🍃The Prophet ﷺ said:
“I was given the last two Aayaat from Suratul-Baqarah from the treasure that is just beneath the Throne that was not given to a Prophet before me.”
(Ahmad 21564, Saheeh li-ghairihi).
🔺The last two Aayaat of al-Baqarah at bedtime will SUFFICE.
🍃The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.”
(al-Bukhaari 5009 and Muslim 2714)
▪️So what does “suffice” mean?
Some of the scholars said this means that it will be sufficient for him so he does not need to pray qiyaam al-layl;
some said that they will suffice to protect him from the Shaytaan, or from all evil.
🍃Al-Shawkaani said:
“There is no reason why it should not mean all these things… for the bounty of Allaah is immense.”
🍃 Al-Haafiz said: “It may be that it means all of the above.”
🍃Ibn al-Qayyim said:
“They will suffice him against any evil that may harm him.”
(al-Waabil al-Sayyib 132)
🔺Protection from the Shaytaan.
🍃The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Indeed Allaah wrote a book 2,000 years before He created the heavens and earth.
He sent down from it two verses to seal Surah Al-Baqarah with.
When they are recited in a home for three nights, no Shaytaan shall come near it."
(Tirmidhi 2882; saheeh by al-Albaani)
🔺These Aayaat were revealed under special circumstances.
🍃The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When Allaah revealed:
“To Allaah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. Whether you show what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allaah will bring you to account for it.
Then He will forgive whom He wills and punish whom He wills, and Allaah is over all things capable.”
The Companions of the Messenger ﷺ were distressed by that.
They came to the Messenger ﷺ and knelt down and said:
“O Messenger of Allaah, we have been enjoined to do deeds that we are able to do, such as Salaah, Fasting, Jihaad, and Sadaqah.
But now this verse has been revealed to you, and we cannot bear [the weight of] its burden.”
So the Messenger ﷺ said:
“Do you mean to say what the People of the two Revealed Books before you said:
“We hear and we disobey (sami’naa wa ‘asaynaa)?”
Rather you should say:
سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا ۖ غُفْرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ
“We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.”
When the people started saying that and it flowed easily upon their tongues, Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed:
“The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allaah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.”
And they say, “We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.””
When they did that, Allaah, the Most High, abrogated it, and so revealed:
لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۚ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ ۗ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِن نَّسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا
“Allaah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. “Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred.”
So Allaah said: “Yes (na’am).”
“Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us.”
So Allaah said: “Yes.”
“And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.”
So Allaah said: “Yes.”
(Saheeh Muslim 125)
Allaahu Akbar!
What beautiful aayaat and what beautiful benefits!

They will indeed suffice.
And Allaah knows best.
