by Asma bint Shameem đˇ Allaah says:
âBut when you enter the houses, greet one another with a greeting from Allaah (i.e. say: As-Salaamu âAlaykum â peace be on you), blessed and goodâ (Surah an-Noor:61)
From this ayah we know when we enter our homes, it's good if we say Assalaamu Alaikum.
But do we say that even when there's nobody home?
đ âAbdullah bin Umar radhi Allaahu anhu said:
âIf one enters a house while it is empty, then let him say:
اŮŘłŮŮŮا٠٠ؚŮŮŮŮŮا ŮŮŘšŮŮŮŮ° ŘšŮباد٠اŮŮŮ٠اŮŘľŮŮاŮŮŘŮŮŮ
[as-Salaamu âalaynaa wa âalaa âibaadillaah as-saalihin]
âPeace be upon us, and upon Allahâs righteous slaves.'â
[âSaheeh al-Adab al-Mufradâ 806]
đşIbn Hajar said:
âThe command to spread greetings of peace includes greetings oneâs own self when one enters a place in which there is nobody else present, for Allaah said:
{âBut when you enter the houses, greet one another (literally, greet yourselves)..â} [an-Nur; 61].â
[âFath al-Bariâ; 11/22]
đşAl-Qurtubi said
"If there is a Muslim person in the house he should say

âAs-salaamu Alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu
(peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allaah, and His blessings).â
If there is no one there, he should say,
اŮŘłŮŮŮا٠٠ؚŮŮŮŮŮا ŮŮŘšŮŮŮŮ° ŘšŮباد٠اŮŮŮ٠اŮŘľŮŮاŮŮŘŮŮŮ
âAl-salaamu 'Alaynaa wa 'alaa âibaad-Illaahis-saaliheen
(peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allaah).â

"When you enter the masjid, say,
اŮŮŘłŮŮŮا٠٠ؚŮŮŮŮ° ŘąŮŘłŮŮŮ٠اŮŮŮ
âAl-salaam âala Rasool-Illaah
(Peace be upon the Messenger of Allaah),â
and when you enter upon your family, greet them with salaam,
and when you enter a house in which there is no one, say
اŮŘłŮŮŮا٠٠ؚŮŮŮŮŮا ŮŮŘšŮŮŮŮ° ŘšŮباد٠اŮŮŮ٠اŮŘľŮŮاŮŮŘŮŮŮ
